The dead body discovered in a Seattle dumpster was shocking enough -- but equally disturbing was the manner of death. The victim, a high school coach, had been lynched, leaving behind a very pregnant wife to grieve over his passing, and to wonder what dark and disturbing secrets he took to his grave.
A homicide detective with twenty years on the job, J. Beaumont knows this case is a powder keg and he fears where this investigation will lead him. Because the answers lie on the extreme lethal edge of passion and hate, where the wrong kind of love can breed the most terrible brand of justice. Beau and Ron Peter's have been partnered for a year now. Things are good between them. Then they get saddled with a bizarre case. A black high school basketball coach has been killed. Why was that particular method chosen? Why has the guidance coach in charge of the cheerleaders took such a shine to Ron.
When Ron goes missing, Beau is frantic. Who will take care of Ron's 2 daughters? He just regained custody and their flaky mother is out of the country. Read this fascinating book to find the answers to these questions and more. Highly recommended. A well liked black high school football coach is found dead with rope burns on his neck. A picture of him in a motel room with a white cheerleader is sent to his very pregnant wife and the cheerleaders father. Beau and his partner Peters have to figure out who killed the coach. Beaumont is trying to figure out who killed a coach. The man left behind a pregnant wife, but it seems that he is not a perfect husband. Beau hates to think that his wife had something to do with his murder. One thing that separates Jance's books stand separate from many other series, is that the books can stand by themselves outside of the series. If you pick one up from the middle of the series you will still enjoy the book, and find out enough about the characters to have a good idea what type of people they are.
I love Jance's character development. That's a major reason why I continue to read this series. Beau has been through a lot as far as personal life is concerned, but he has a great partner who is constantly nagging him about what he eats , and he also has an inherited lawyer who has turned into a great friend. Jance always puts in more stories of their interaction with one another, as well as with the crime being solved, and it makes the books read very quickly. Good read. All of Jance's books hold you glued to the page to read and read but you never want to flip to the end before finishing because the story telling is an art that Jance shares with the reader.
I've read and re-read all the Beaumont and Brady books. No matter how many times I read them, the story telling art and the character development continue to hold me. I have drifted in and out of being a regular reader of mystery novels, only due to a demanding schedule. I bought Trial by Fury a few years ago after having really enjoyed a few Jance Beaumont and Brady books. It sat on a shelf until a few days ago. I breezed through this exciting, plot twisting story hangning on every word to see what would happen next. I stayed awake a few nights and got through it in just a few days. I tend to figure who a killer is early in a story, and this one was no exception. However, I was thoroughly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed "tagging along" with Detective JP Beaumont as he tracked down the murderer of a high school basketball coach. A number of "scenes" came out of no where and blew me away.
The cool thing about the Jance novels is that you get to know and get to like the characters. Beumont reminds me a lot of '70's and '80's TV detectives who act tough, who are really very soft hearted, and always lonely and drink a lot. I'm now an official Jance fan. I recommend this and all of the Beaumont and Brady books. They're enjoyable in any order, but it's kind of cool to read them in sequence and alternate between the two. JP Beaumont's character continues to get deeper and more thought-provoking. I love how he handles life from a very humanistic approach. He is real and transparent, just like he should be.
JA Jance has created quite a character with this dude. I love how JP cares for his partner, Peters, but doesn't want it to be a show. But, he comes through and he will be a guardian for Peters' precious daughters if he needs to. I also love that the money he inherited did not go to his head. He is an awesome individual. VINE VOICE. This book was published in , where are the cell phones? Why doesnât he have a phone in his car? They were pretty standard to luxury vehicles. What about the car radios in police cars? This guy drinks too much and he loses his temper too easily. Going to keep going though. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries.

Born in South Dakota and brought up in Bisbee, Arizona, Jance lives with her husband in Seattle, Washington, and Tucson, Arizona.
